Worship Ministry
Three Goals for our worship:
1. Live.
2. Christ Centered.
3. Engaging (audience not spectators but drawn in)
Expression
A healthy church is a well rounded church. Each person within the body has a unique personal make up that should be celebrated and not changed. Some people are right brained and some are left brained. Some people are expressive and others are introverted. There are task oriented people and relationship oriented people. Some people prefer solemnity in worship and others just want to scream, shout, and dance. Within the Church, each expression should be allowed an outlet. If any one personality is dominant and promoted above others, it will make other personality types feel out of place. This manifests itself when a church swings to a far side of the spectrum. Either it becomes intellectual/non emotional or emotional with little depth. When each part of the body is encouraged, it helps the church celebrate what God made it to be.
Worship
Every generation is drawn to different forms, methods, and avenues of worship. Jesus considered true worshippers as those who did so in "spirit and in truth". Worship starts within and reveals itself through various, and equally valid, expressions: awe, wonder, giving, dancing, holding still, weeping, laughing, mourning, silence, reflection, shouting, praying, serving, and much more. Because God created man in His own image, man is a triune being consisting of body, soul, and spirit. The complete person is involved in worship. He/she intentionally thinks about their relationship with God and expresses their gratitude with marvel both emotionally and intellectually. When a sinner contemplates the Savior, worship should naturally well from within his being.
Leading Worship
When the church begins to sing every joint and tendon of the body should be engaged. The leaders should never try to perform, instrumentalists are support pieces that help drive the melody, accentuate the harmonies, and keep the rhythms. Vocalists model the joy of Christ and use their skill to honor Him with their voices. In leading others to worship those who are tasked with playing instruments and singing must be worshiping the Lord in their hearts. The Audio/Visual team members should be worshiping the Lord through excellence in what they do. Every team member should take time to confess sin, make relationships right, and focus on the message of the lyrics or sound before taking their place. Leading worship is so much more than helping the congregation get from the first song to the last, it is guiding them to the throne of grace and mercy, engaging them with the Creator of the universe, and settling their hearts with the Great I AM. It is so much more than a song time, it is the time when mankind deliberately interfaces with the LORD of lords. Those who lead in worship take the congregation before the seat of the Savior so they, like Mary, may find the better part of their faith.
